Malta's Nationalist Party wants online shoppers to be spared a customs charge that kicks in next year. From the 1st of July 2026, the European Union is applying a temporary tariff of €3 on each category of item found in consignments valued at up to €150. In practice, that means a parcel of cheap goods ordered from outside the bloc can pick up the fee more than once, depending on how many product categories it contains. The PN's answer is a proposal for free consignments, so that buyers are compensated for the surcharge on their purchases. The plan was put forward by the party and reported by Newsbook, which gave no details on who would absorb the cost or how the scheme would run. The tariff is set up as a temporary measure, and neither the EU notice nor the party's statement indicated how long it would stay in place.

Mill-1 ta’ Lulju 2026, l-UE bdiet tapplika tariffa doganali temporanja ta’ €3 fuq kull kategorija ta’ oġġetti f’konsenji b’valur sa €150. The post PN jipproponi konsenja b’xejn biex jikkumpensa għat-tariffi fuq xiri online appeared first on Newsbook .
