A councillor in Sligo wants the county's promising young athletes to receive real backing rather than encouragement alone. The push centres on funding and support that rising stars in local sport can actually use. In the councillor's own words, "here is a chance to do more than talk, this can make a real difference". The remark frames the moment as one where decisions, not speeches, will shape how far Sligo's young talent goes. Behind the call sits a familiar problem: promising athletes drop away when travel, gear and coaching costs pile up. The councillor argues that modest, well-aimed investment now would keep those athletes in their sports. Turning the appeal into reality would require movement from the council, clubs or sporting bodies with money to spend.
