A 12-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after friends poured cologne on his back and set it on fire in Istanbul's Arnavutköy district. The victim, Batuhan A., has been receiving treatment for close to a month since the attack. His father, Kadir A., said the boy suffered third-degree burns and is being treated with medication alongside psychiatric care. The father spoke publicly to demand that the children responsible receive the punishment they deserve. A police investigation determined that three children took part in the incident. One of them was referred to the courts and then released under judicial control conditions. The case has stirred anger in the neighbourhood and drawn attention to peer violence among children. It also raises difficult questions about how the justice system handles offenders who are below the age of full criminal responsibility.
