Several dozen demonstrators tried to force their way into the Chamber of Deputies in Prague on Friday evening. The attempt happened while lawmakers were meeting to debate a bill on the financing of public service media. Under the proposal, the way public media are funded would change and concession fees would be abolished. Those fees are the regular household payments that have long financed Czech Radio and Czech Television. The push to end them has stirred strong reactions, and the protesters clearly aimed to make their opposition felt at the very place where the law was being discussed. The scene outside the parliament was described as chaotic as the crowd pushed toward the building. Lawmakers carried on with their deliberations despite the disruption outside.
