Nudification, murder- and gambling-themed apps flagged in IMDA’s first app store audit
Singapore's first formal audit of app stores has caught some ugly entries hiding behind everyday listings. Among the flagged apps were tools built to 'nudify' photos of real people, alongside games and services themed around murder and gambling. The review by the Infocomm Media Development Authority checked how the major stores police what gets published. Regulators did find baseline safety measures in place, and age checks appeared to be well implemented across the platforms. The presence of nudification apps, though, shows how quickly new harmful categories slip past standard moderation. The findings give Singapore a benchmark for what to demand from Apple, Google and other store operators. Platform teams now face pressure to respond before further checks follow.
Overall, app stores were found to have baseline safety measures, with well-implemented age checks.
