Maltepe'deki bina faciasında 2 tutuklama! Kahreden detay ortaya çıktı
Two people have been arrested over the partial collapse of a seven-storey building in Istanbul's Maltepe district that killed five people and injured ten. Authorities detained the building's architect and the site chief as the investigation moved forward. Prosecutors are examining how the structure could give way with residents inside. Among the dead was 40-year-old Mesut Bilece, and a painful detail about his final months has now come out. He had moved into the building in the Cevizli neighbourhood as a tenant only eleven months earlier, after his own home was pulled into an urban redevelopment project. In other words, a man displaced to make way for new construction died in the old building he was pushed into. The arrests will keep public attention on Istanbul's stock of ageing apartment blocks and the enforcement gaps around them.
