A 32-year-old Indonesian man will be charged in court on Saturday (Aug 29) for allegedly carrying an offensive weapon at Changi Airport.Police said on Friday night that he was allegedly found concealing a knife in his high-cut shoe at the centralised screening area of Terminal 4's departure hall at about 1.10pm on Aug 27.Preliminary investigations revealed that he had concealed a knife measuring 19.5cm in length, with a 12cm blade, inside his sock.According to the police, the knife was wrapped in layers of plastic bags and sealed with tape. An aviation security officer operating an X-ray machine detected a suspicious sharp object in the right shoe, and instructed the man to remove his shoe before passing through the X-ray screening lane.He was later escorted to a search room, where a knife and a sheath were found concealed in his shoe.He will be charged with the offence of carrying an offensive weapon in a public place. If found guilty of the said offence, he could be jailed for up to three years and receive at least six strokes of the cane.
