The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Health Organization (FAO/WHO) held the first international conference on food safety in the city of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) from 12 to 13 February. Kyrgyzstan was represented by Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food Industry and Melioration Erkinbek Choduev, the press service of its subordinate body reported. Along with participants from 150 countries of the world, he spoke Wednesday, February 13, at a panel discussion of ministers, describing the prospects for improving the state of food safety in Kyrgyzstan. In total, the conference gathered more than 700 delegates. The main objective of the conference, according to the organizers, is to discuss issues of expanding work in support of food safety recognition and inclusion of food safety issues in all national programs and policies. “The national strategy for sustainable development of the Kyrgyz Republic also aims at ensuring food safety through development of the agro-industrial sector with state regulation. Today, the food supply chain is international. Therefore, effective cooperation between the governments of countries, producers and consumers of food helps to ensure food safety,” the press service of the Ministry explained the benefits of Kyrgyzstan from participating in the conference. As reported, the institution, together with development partners such as FAO, UNICEF, WHO, WFP, as well as the movement for the expansion of nutrition activities (SUN), is actively involved in determining priorities in its national programs in which nutritional results become key policy objective of the agro-industrial complex.
