Eritrean nationals residing in the UK, the US, Canada and Qatar commemorated Martyrs Day, 20 June with candle vigil and renewing their pledge to support families of martyrs. Asmara, 22 June 2019- Eritrean nationals residing in the UK, the US, Canada and Qatar commemorated Martyrs Day, 20 June with candle vigil and renewing their pledge to support families of martyrs. The commemoration events in the cities of UK, London, Birmingham, Manchester, New Castle, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Nottingham Coventry was highlighted with artistic and cultural performances portraying the significance of Martyrs Day. At the occasion in London in which a number of nationals and friends of Eritrea took part, the Eritrean Ambassador to the UK and Northern Ireland, Mr. Estifanos Habtemariam said that independence, sovereignty, peace, stability and unity are the fruits of the heavy sacrifice the Eritrean people paid and called for renewing pledge to martyrs trust. In the same vein, at the event conducted in Grand Rapids, Michigan the nationals contributed 2700 Dollar in support of families of martyrs. Likewise, at the commemoration ceremony the nationals residing in Doha, Qatar, conducted they contributed 1350 Qatari Riyal in augmenting the Martyrs Trust Fund. The Eritrean Ambassador to Qatar, Mr. Ali Ibrahim called on the nationals to live up to the expectations of martyrs and strengthen contribution in support of families of martyrs. Nationals residing in Toronto, Canada, also commemorated Martyrs Day with candle vigil and various programs portraying the significance of Martyrs Day. Read more
