The National Cadet Corps (NCC) on Wednesday (Aug 26) unveiled an updated roadmap for its next chapter as it marks its 125th anniversary.Founded in 1901, with its first cadet corps unit at Raffles Institution to train youths for the Singapore Volunteer Corps, the present-day NCC was established on Jan 1, 1969.It comprises three services — land, sea and air — mirroring the army, navy and air force of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), and has more than 10,000 members in 135 units across 119 schools today.In his speech at the Corps' 125th anniversary celebrations held at the Central Manpower Base, Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing said that the NCC has taught young Singaporeans what classrooms alone cannot.
