Car lanes at Tuas Checkpoint will be temporarily closed in phases from Sep 1 as construction begins to make way for the Automated Passenger Clearance System (APCS) for vehicles.In a Facebook post on Wednesday (Aug 26), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said the work is expected to be completed in late 2027. «The works will involve the progressive removal of existing car counters manned by ICA officers and replacing them with APCS lanes,» said the authority.«To facilitate the works, parts of the departure car zones will be temporarily closed in phases during the construction works.»Once operational, the APCS will allow drivers and passengers travelling in cars to complete immigration clearance without leaving their vehicles.The system will also use QR codes together with biometric verification to facilitate automated clearance.ICA said it has put in place road signage, road safety markers and hoardings to guide travellers safely around the affected lanes and zones during the construction period.
